Modding a
|
 |
 |
An old Dell XPS T850r.
Good old clunker for working on websites and stuff, but
it needs modded.
I added a
really big (120mm fan) for a good airflow. See no-blow
page |
 |
I removed the case badge and cut out
a small piece of clear plastic so I can light up the name-sake with a 12
volt LED. |
 |
To help diffuse the
light source, I'm using these clear pads.
|

|
Here I've cut the
Lucite out and show the LED and it's part #276-209.
That LED was too dim. Oh well. This saved me from having to put on a resister.
I took this out since it was TOO DIM and TOO LAME. I got a
Better LED from
Computuning
a
Color Changing one is a complete unit, ready to plug in with a Molex connector.
I'll post the movie clip as soon.
The Computuning LED is completely self contained with no external
controller! It's very bright.
|
 |
Attached with butt
connectors because I was too lazy to solder it. |
 |
Here the LED is
attached, simply with reflective tape.
(When I replaced this with the
computuning LED, I used the same method of attaching it) |

Clear Lucite & Clear
Pads, Super Glued in. |
 |
LED MOD Ready. |
 |
  |
| Looking back, I really did not need the pads. Just the
Lucite would have been fine |
I've got my new LED
from
Computuning.
It totally kicks ass. It does all sorts of color changes with no controller
board. it only took one to really light that thing up. |
 |
I've added a G4, 64 meg
Video card. Added 512 megs of RAM
Now I need a
CD Burner or DVD Burner |
 |
I've painted the
case, and am waiting for everything to get setup hard enough to assemble.
I used a black Sony 52x CD-Drive that I had on hand. That saved me
some painting. |
 |
For the most
part, it's done. |
 |
Any thing is better
then that old tired assed beige case. I'll paint the monitor when I have
some more time. |
