  • Having a dedicated Linux box kicks ass!!

  • I suppose it was inevitable, I finally installed Ubuntu 8.10.

  • I really liked Linux Mint, Daryna

  • Seems most "64" versions don't want to install but the 32 bit versions handle my processor like a champ.

  • XP Pro 64 SUCKS Really Bad.

  • I installed PC Linux 2007 on JP's 1.5ghz HP Box.

  • Read Linux File Systems from Windows

  • Run Windows Applications on Linux with Crossover

  • Crossover pro here and games here. Both are from "free day".

  • I'm running openSuSE 10.3 on THING and it runs real slick.

  • openSUSE.org
  • openSuSE has a new menu style, kind of like Vista.

  • 1 gripe is that openSuSE has VMWare blocked!

  • I'm also was running VISTA  on and I love the eye candy, hate the nags.

  • I've installed TEAMSPEAK on a PCLINUXOS box. This has an outstanding Installer.

  • I've recently installed PCLinuxOS 2007 on my laptop and am really happy with it.  It recognized my Intel Graphs, 14" monitor and my NetGear 108MBs wire-less network card. It works good with my touch pad too. A recent update caused this to crash.

  • I tried Umbuntu 6.0 but it failed to recognize my Intel 855 graphics card.

  • I've installed SuSE Linux 9.3 on My Laptop, a Dell Inspiron, 1100 with success.

  • I made an extra hard-drive for my laptop into a dual boot with XP.

  • A Dell XPS400. See Stephanie's Dell.

  • My Old Dell XPS 450 has dual boot with Linux & Windows 2000 Pro.

  • Finally installed it on a really screwed up 600MHz Pionex.

  • The Pionex has a hardware problem which I've never been able to track down.  Linux is the only thing I've been able to install.

  • Any PC with a hardware problem you can't track down is a good candidate for Linux.

  • You can also run Linux as an application with VMware.

  • Find your favorite LINUX Distro at http://distrowatch.com/

  • I have Damn Small Linux on my USB key chain drive. It's a fun little toy.

  • My Key chain USB drive has it's own email address.

  • Thanks to Distro Watch for posting information & links for Linux.

Over the past five or six years, I've messed with Linux on several machines.  I was frustrated with Windows 98, but was also frustrated with learning a new operating system.  Then I got into Windows 2000 Pro and was happy.  I'm also happy with XP Pro.  But I'm getting tired of Micro$oft's stranglehold on practically everything.

But now I have an extra box, a 600 PII that was a gift.  Thanks Becci.

Now I have an extra box to play with. I've installed SuSE 9.x since I had the disk set laying around.  I'm starting to relax and enjoy it.  It drive me nuts for a while since most the files have no file extensions.  One thing end users have to get used to is the names of the programs are all like "kboogerpicker", or "gnufart".  Who thinks up those names?  \

Overall, I like Linux but I have not been entirely happy with SuSE.

I spent 3 days trying to get a DVD player to work.

I was most interested in Xandros Linux 3.01 OCE

I have XandrOS installed on an old Dell XPs400 and it works great.

It does have a password bug in the user group, though the root seems to retain it's password just fine.

100% compatible with Windows networks & workgroups.

Linux is also a very capable mail server.  This is great for bombing mail boxes.

All I want to know is when will they make Internet Explorer for Linux? Just joking, though I've heard that folks in Redmond are slowly purchasing Red Hat for their server platform.

I have had the disk set laying around for quite a while, and now I have an extra box to play with.  All my other boxes are dedicated gaming platforms.

I downloaded Knoppix Linux Boot CD

So far I'm extremely impressed.

I got mine here

ftp://ftp.cise.ufl.edu/pub/mirrors/knoppix/

I booted it on my ASUS and it ran great.  Built in network browser (samba) finds local windows machines.  I've had other boot-Linux disks but this one is the best.
