I'm also was running VISTA
on and I love the eye candy, hate the nags.
I've installed TEAMSPEAK
on a PCLINUXOS
box. This has an outstanding Installer.
I've recently installed PCLinuxOS
2007 on my laptop and am really happy with it. It recognized my
Intel Graphs, 14" monitor and my NetGear 108MBs wire-less
network card. It works good with my touch pad too. A recent update
caused this to crash.
I tried Umbuntu
6.0 but it failed to recognize my Intel 855 graphics card.
I've installed SuSE Linux 9.3 on My Laptop, a Dell
Inspiron, 1100 with success.
I made an extra hard-drive for my laptop into a
dual
boot with XP.
I have Damn
Small Linux on my USB key chain drive. It's a fun little
toy.
My Key chain USB drive has it's own
email address.
Thanks to Distro
Watch for posting information & links for Linux.
Over the past
five or six years, I've messed with Linux on several machines. I
was frustrated with Windows 98, but was also frustrated with learning a
new operating system. Then I got into Windows 2000 Pro and was
happy. I'm also happy with XP Pro. But I'm getting tired of
Micro$oft's stranglehold on practically everything.
But now I have an extra box, a 600 PII that was a gift. Thanks Becci.
Now I have an extra box to play with. I've installed SuSE
9.x since I had the disk set laying around. I'm starting to relax and enjoy it. It drive me nuts
for a while since most the files have no file extensions. One
thing end users have to get used to is the names of the programs are all
like "kboogerpicker", or "gnufart". Who thinks up
those names? \
Overall, I like Linux but I have not
been entirely happy with SuSE.
I spent 3 days trying to get a DVD
player to work.
I have
XandrOS
installed on an old Dell XPs400 and it works great.
It
does have a password bug in the user group, though the root seems to
retain it's password just fine.
100% compatible with
Windows networks & workgroups.
Linux is also a very capable mail
server. This is great for bombing mail boxes.
All I want to know is when will they make
Internet
Explorer for Linux? Just joking, though I've heard that folks in
Redmond are slowly purchasing Red Hat for their server platform.
I have had the disk set laying around for
quite a while, and now I have an extra box to play with. All my other
boxes are dedicated gamingplatforms.
I booted it on my ASUS and it ran great. Built in network
browser (samba) finds local windows machines. I've had other boot-Linux
disks but this one is the best.
